Santa Fe & Taos Heritage Trip

My career with the National Park Service began in northern New Mexico at Fort Union National Monument and Pecos National Historical Park before arriving at Tumacacori Mission. There, I started working in heritage preservation and interpretation, with a desire to help physically preserve and communicate why these places of Indigenous and Hispanic heritage are of such great importance to the public.

With this background and familiarity of this special part of New Mexico, we decided to offer you an opportunity to connect with the rich cultural heritage of our neighboring state and share another part of the borderlands that is key to understanding the Southwest. But most of all, this trip is to help get you out of the heat of the Sonoran summer and up to the respite of being  7,000 feet in elevation at Santa Fe. :)

Juan Bautista de Anza

Celebrating 250 Years of the Anza Expedition

We are coming up to a very special anniversary during the next two years.

This 2025 will mark the 250th anniversary of the historic Juan Bautista de Anza expedition, which brought nearly 300 immigrants and 2,000 heads of livestock from northern Mexico through Arizona and California to found the city of San Francisco in 1775-1776.

In preparation for this milestone, stakeholders in Mexico, Arizona, and California are planning events and commemorations. We had the chance to meet with board members of the Anza Trail Foundation for a strategic planning session in Tucson alongside Anza Trail Superintendent Naomi Torres and trail staff Christopher Bentley and Estrella Sainburg. So stay tuned for upcoming events and trips currently in the making!

In the meantime, have you visited the Anza Trail lately? Join us for a special guided hike!
