Anza Trail - Nature & Heritage Walk
Join local guide Alex La Pierre on a hike down the Juan Bautista de Anza Trail for the 250th anniversary of the expedition. We will meet at the Tubac Presidio State Historic Park and veer south along the cottonwood forest and banks of the Santa Cruz River. Alex will share the river valley’s history, and offer insight into the 1775-6 Anza expedition, as well as describe the diverse flora and fauna encountered on the trail.
We will hike approximately 2 miles south before turning around and ending back at the Presidio, for a total of 4 miles. Along the way, we will learn about the unique culture and biodiversity of the Santa Cruz Valley.
Alex La Pierre is a public historian and former National Park Service Ranger who worked at Tumacacori National Historical Park in historic preservation and for the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail as an interpretive ranger.
