Recuerdos Chihuahuenses

The thing that makes Chihuahua so grand is not the size of the land but rather the grandness of its people.

This was a statement from Bernardo, a local guide who we met in Parral, which has since resonated because of how much truth there is to it based on the experience in April on our first Borderlandia trip to el estado grande, Chihuahua. This quality of the people was present in nearly every one of our interactions with our neighbors, vecinos chihuahuenses. From the Mennonite minister Phil, whom we met and learned from in Mata Ortiz, to Diana, the director of tourism for the municipality of Casas Grandes, to Palmira and Rosa of the Municipal Archive of Parral, we were collectively impressed by the warm hospitality we received everywhere we traveled from the pines and flowering apple fields of Ciudad Cuauhtemoc to the Chihuahuan Desert and blossoming peaches of Casas Grandes.

Given this, we intend to keep this door open with Chihuahua to provide opportunities for fun, educational exchange with this distinct region to enrich public understanding of the borderlands.  We hope you’ll consider joining us on this future opportunity - look for the announcement of upcoming trips and registration details in this May-June edition of Borderlandia Magazine!

The old adage states, a picture is worth a thousand words, so to best describe our experience, we leave you with an array of images in a video Rocío produced of the recent visit here:

Borderlandia's visit to Chihuahua was also featured in the Easter Sunday edition of the number one newspaper in Mexico's largest state, El Heraldo de Chihuahua - check it out!

Happy Spring,

Alex
